City of Lebanon Revitalization Project - Summer 2014

“Empire Services was chosen for the job partly based on its excellent history working with the city of Lebanon.”

Empire Services Helping Lebanon Revitalization - Summer 2014

Empire Services recently demolished three dozen vacant houses as part of an economic revitalization project in the city of Lebanon, PA. The project, on Lebanon’s north side, is related to the construction of the Norfolk Southern Railroad overpasses.

The vacant homes, located between the dual bridges on North Ninth and North 10th streets, were acquired by the city. Bob Nocera, a 32-year veteran employee of Empire Services, operated the excavator to demolish many of the houses and the printing building. They posed a challenge because of its location close to the bridge.

The newly cleared 3.5-acre site will be prepared for commercial development and sold. Possible uses include offices, retail space, and light industrial businesses. The project is funded by a state grant. It was decided the rundown neighborhood should be demolished because its location near the railroad overpasses was better suited for industrial than for residential properties.

Empire Services was chosen for the job partly based on its excellent history working with the city of Lebanon. Previously, Empire Services demolished about five dozen properties to make way for the new twin Norfolk Southern Railroad overpasses.
