Deconstructing Two Office Floors for One Client
The amount of work for customizing a commercial space depends on the budget and the type of business. The changes can be as simple as changing the flooring and paint to more extensive changes, such as removing ceilings and flooring. Some jobs need a complete gut from top to bottom of the entire space to meet the new tenant’s needs. And some jobs consist of multiple floors to accommodate technology (e.g., servers). Removing non-structural components, such as walls and fixtures, creates a new floor configuration. This process is called deconstruction (also called select demolition), where the crew dismantles everything on the floor and recycles what they can. Empire Services recently deconstructed two office floors for a dental insurance company in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
Prepping for New Finishes
The new tenant needed two floors to accommodate employees and other support areas. JEM Group contracted Empire Services to perform the selective demolition of the 5th & 6th floors of this building to achieve this. The project began with the removal of the ceilings, walls and then the flooring. Care was taken not to damage the carpet during demolition due to the recycling requirements. Once the flooring was removed, all adhesives where then ground smooth using various diamond grinders. This process is common when new flooring applications require smooth clean surfaces free of remnant glue and other grime. While removing the ceilings all florescent light tubes were carefully removed and packaged for proper recycling and disposal.
Deconstruction Completed
Each floor will contain a computer room. One floor will have the main computer room; the other will house a remote room. These rooms require unique flooring, so we diligently removed the glue to ensure the concrete slab was clean and smooth. New wiring was necessary and required the ceiling removal. It is gratifying to see such a transformation from start to finish. Contact us today when you need to outfit an office space from scratch. Our experienced and highly trained team will deconstruct the space to meet your needs.
